28 cuts to reach the list limit of 53

FRISCO, Texas – As expected, the Cowboys made a number of roster changes to reach the 53-man cap before the NFL deadline.

Despite Tuesday’s moves (25 players released, two players released/injured, one player placed on reserve/non-football injury), the list is far from ‘final’.

For example, it is hoped that the tackle izquierdo Tyron Smith (tendón de la corva) and the receiver abierto James Washington (magpie) pasen a la lista de regreso de Reserva/Lesionado más adelante esta semana después de star en la lista activa pendante al menos one day. This allows them to be eligible to return from injury at some point this season. (Rookie linebacker Damone Clark (neck) can go to Reserve/NFI and still be eligible to return this season.)

Once these moves are made after Tuesday, spots on the active roster will open up for the potential return of some players. The Cowboys currently don’t have a kicker, long snapper or backup quarterback on the 53-man roster after cutting Brett Maher, Jake McQuaide, Cooper Rush, Will Grier and Ben DiNucci. Of course, that won’t be the case forever. The Cowboys will address those positions in the coming days on both the active roster and the practice squad. Special teams standout CJ Goodwin is likely another candidate who will eventually return if he remains unsigned.

Here’s the full list of roster moves the Cowboys made on Tuesday. Just keep in mind that things will likely continue to change over the week.
