A high school in Virginia records 1,000 students suffering from the flu

About 1,000 students at a large high school in Virginia were absent this week due to a flu-like illness.

A widespread illness at Stafford High School outside Washington, D.C., has prompted the school to cancel all weekend activities and athletics, according to Post on Friday on his Facebook page.

“Due to the large number of reported student and staff illnesses this week, all Stafford High School activities and athletics scheduled through Sunday, October 23rd are cancelled,” the announcement said.

“We will reassess the conditions on Monday and provide you with additional information.”

A mysterious illness has affected about half of the school’s students. Just over 2,000 teenagers are enrolled at Stafford High School, near Fredericksburg, Va. according to US News and World Report.

“Due to the large number of reported student and staff illnesses this week, all Stafford High School activities and athletics scheduled through Sunday, October 23rd are cancelled,” the announcement said.

Spokesman said WRC-TV students and teachers were suffering from flu-like and gastrointestinal symptoms, and state health officials were working to determine the cause of the outbreak.

Health the officials called Americans not to skip theirs flu shots this season, warning that the virus could re-emerge this year after its spread reached a historic low during the COVID-19 pandemic.
