american golfer Tiger Woods and the Northern Irish Rory McIlroyan association that goes beyond sharing a job, announced on Wednesday the creation of The Golf League (TGL)a new virtual tournament which plans to attract the best players in the world, in association with the PGA.
The world of golf is constantly changing while assimilating the latest innovations, the creation of Golf LIVE, the Saudi circuit that has seen many players compete on the North American PGA and the European DP World Tour. Tiger and Rory’s announcement actually comes on the same day as a PGA meeting with “upgrades” to their tour.
The innovative and technological competition will pit six teams of three players against each other in a stadium with fans, and will be carried out by TMRW Sports, a company dedicated to technology and its use in sport, founded on Tuesday by Woods and McIlroy. Tournaments would be played with the latest simulation technologyMonday evenings, with semi-finals and final.
The goal, and the PGAs, of virtual tournaments is attract a younger audience, make dynamic broadcasts (the matches would last two hours), and would give “a new opportunity for the best players to compete”, as McIlroy added on his twitter.
The new virtual incorporation into the PGA calendar was accompanied this Wednesday by measures of the American circuit at increase prize money in 12 tournaments. Commissioner Jay Monahan explained at a press conference that the improvement will be around 20 million dollars.
A new response that is being attempted from the United States to match the bet of LIV Golf, which has already taken some of the best players in the world, already sanctioned by the PGA and the DP World Tour. On the other hand, Monahan explains the agreement with the players to play 20 tournaments with a better schedule.
