Amazon continues to stream anti-Semitic film at the Kyrie Irving Drama Center
Kyrie Irving it may have been suspended for promoting a film based on antisemitic themes, but there is still a large platform that not only streams the film, but also makes a profit.
“To the Black Hebrews: Wake Up Black America!” is listed on Amazon for users to rent for $10.99 or purchase for $48.99. We’ve reached out to Amazon and asked if the company plans to restrict access or remove the film entirely, but have not heard back.
While the criticism Kyrie received for the promotion, even at the beginning, refusing to denounce the antisemitism in the film is justified… there was little to no public outcry for Amazon to pull the film.
In fact, Amazon’s listing for the movie even includes a “Watch and Talk With Others” feature — which it makes available for other TV/movies — but that just makes it easier to spread hate.
What’s more — both the Brooklyn Nets and the Anti-Defamation League asked on Friday Jeff Bezos and leaders at Amazon to remove the film.
CUT
As we reported, Kyrie is currently serving in the minimum 5 game suspension after the Brooklyn Nets said Thursday, “We were dismayed today, when given the opportunity at the media session, that Kyrie refused to state unequivocally that he has no anti-Semitic beliefs, nor to acknowledge specific hateful material in the film. This was not the first time that had the opportunity – but failed – to clarify.”
Just hours after the Nets’ announcement, Kyrie tried another apologysaying, “To all the Jewish families and communities who have been hurt and affected by my fast… I am deeply sorry for causing you pain and I apologize.”
The apology received mixed reviews, with many emotions it wasn’t sincere with “sorry if i hurt your feelings”.
