AP Top 25 poll: Tennessee ties Ohio State for No. 2 in college football rankings, No. 1 Georgia next

Tennessee tied for No. 2 in the AP Top 25 poll this week ahead of an epic SEC showdown on CBS Game of the Week between the Volunteers and No. 1 Georgia on Saturday. Ohio State is also tied for second in the poll as both the Buckeyes and Volunteers finished with 1,500 points in the poll.

The last two meetings between no. 1 and no. 2 were between Alabama and LSU. In 2019, then no. 1 LSU won then-No. 2 Alabama on its way to a national championship. The top-ranked Tigers also defeated Alabama in 2011 before the Crimson Tide got revenge in the BCS Championship game. Ironically, the Crimson Tide and Tigers are playing this week.

The top three teams continued to share first-place votes as Georgia received 30, Tennessee received 18 and Ohio State received 15. Michigan and Clemson round out this week’s top five, while Alabama remained at No. 6 ahead of undefeated TCU, which remained on no. 7 even after a road win over West Virginia.

While Georgia vs. Tennessee is expected to decide the SEC East, the SEC West could be in for another top-15 matchup as the Crimson Tide travels to face No. 15 LSU. The Tigers moved up three spots in the poll despite being shut out in Week 9. While No. 11 Ole Miss remains a factor in the division, the winner of Alabama-LSU will have a great opportunity to represent the division in the SEC title game.

UCLA and USC are both in the top 10 of the poll, giving the Pac-12 three top-10 teams this week, with Oregon remaining at No. 8, USC moving up one spot to No. 9 and UCLA up two spots to No. No. 10 Oregon State cracked the poll this week for the first time since 2013 when the Beavers (6-2, 3-2 Pac-12) were ranked No. 24 despite having a bye.
