Biden says Twitter is spreading lies around the world
ROSEMONT, Illinois, Nov 4 (Reuters) – U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday that Elon Musk had bought the Twitter social media platform that spreads lies around the world.
Twitter has been fired half of its workforce on Friday, but said cuts to the team responsible for preventing the spread of disinformation were reduced as advertisers pulled back spending amid concerns about content moderation.
Biden said at the fundraiser, “And now what we’re all worried about: Elon Musk goes out and buys clothes that send — that spew lies all over the world… There are no editors left in America. There are no editors. How do we expect kids to understand what concerned?”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters earlier that Biden was clear about the need to reduce hate speech and misinformation.
“That belief extends to Twitter, it extends to Facebook and all the other social media platforms where users can spread misinformation,” she said.
