Chris Pratt backs billionaire Rick Caruso for LA mayor after seeing city ‘descend’ into ‘total chaos’
Chris Pratt endorsed a political candidate on Sunday ahead of the midterm elections and gave him his support billionaire Rick Caruso in the race for mayor of Los Angeles.
Pratt, 43, took to Instagram stories in which he literally fell for Caruso, the former president Los Angeles Police Commission.
Caruso also served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power under Mayor Tom Bradley in 1985.
“I’ve lived in LA for over 20 years. I’ve had a great time. During that time, I’ve seen what many residents here have seen, the city’s gradual decline into pain and utter disarray,” Pratt wrote online. “If you live here, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
“I don’t normally support political candidates. But there is too much to lose in this election.”
He added: “If you’re a voter in LA, I urge you to vote for @rickcarusola. He’s a builder. He knows how to get things done. He’s the guy for our city. Rick Caruso for mayor of LA.”
Pratt’s mother-in-law, Maria Shrivershe also made it known who she was voting for, and has long supported Caruso on Twitter.
“This race is super close and every vote counts. If you want Los Angeles to be different than it is today, the choice is clear with @RickCarusoLA. Change is key to the city’s future. It’s up to us – let’s go,” she tweeted.
Caruso, who was previously registered as a Republican, will face Congresswoman Karen Bass in Tuesday’s midterms. Bass is in his sixth term representing the 37th Congressional District after re-election in November 2020.
Prior to serving in Congress, Bass represented the 47th District in California State Assembly six years.
Bass and Caruso are running to replace embattled Mayor Eric Garcetti, but the tight race has L.A. split between a real estate developer (known for hotspots including The Grove and The Commons in Calabasas) and a former social worker who advocated for communities in Los Angeles for decades.
kim kardashian endorsed Caruso in May, while Katy Perry tweeted her support for Caruso the following month. Snoop Dogg, Elon Musk and Gwyneth Paltrow also endorse Caruso.
According to government records, Caruso was a Republican for more than two decades before becoming an independent in 2011. Caruso switched back to being a Republican in 2016 — the year he co-chaired the California campaign for Republican John Kasich’s presidential bid — and then an independent again in 2019. The Democrat became just before he entered the mayoral race in February.
President Barack Obama recently endorsed Bass, alongside Steven Speilberg, Julie Louis-Dreyfus, Danny Trejo and former LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
