Edinson Cavani will be a Valencia player
Finally, after weeks of speculation, the next destination of Edinson Cavani is known: the Matador will wear the Valencian jersey of the Spanish Liga.
Cavani has accepted a two-season contract with the Spanish team, which will be signed once he has passed the medical examination, scheduled for Monday 29, he confirmed to ESPN the player’s representative, Fernando Guglielmone.
In this way, the Salta player completes his participation in four of the five most important leagues in European football, having already passed through Serie A in Italy, Ligue 1 in France and the English Premier League.
The news of Cavani’s arrival at Valencia directly affects the Uruguayan national team, who will have their second all-time top scorer competing in one of the strongest leagues on the planet ahead of the World Cup.
It remains to be seen how long it will take for the striker to reach 100% fitness after training alone for several weeks in Uruguay after leaving Manchester United in early July.
The reality of black and white
Valencia needed to add power to their attack, and found in Cavani a reference name that can give them what they are looking for. The team finished ninth in the last edition of La Liga and were kicked out of European competition, a result fans regretted as they understood it to be a failure. The team that finished with a negative goal difference in 21/22 and started the new cycle with the same irregularity: they beat Girona 1-0 and lost by the same result against Athletic Bilbao.
Under the technical direction of Italian Gennaro Gattuso -a great promoter of Cavani’s contracting-, Valencia are looking to recover the rolls they had almost two decades ago, when they were La Liga champions in 2002 and 2004, and UEFA Champions League finalist in 2000 and 2001.
