F1 – 2022 Italian GP: F1 observes two minutes of silence in honor of Elizabeth of England

La Formula 1 observe two minutes of silence after the death of Queen Elizabeth II yesterday, and will do so by honoring the regent two days in a row in Monza. The first minute will be observed today before the start of the first free practice and the second on Sunday just before the start of the race at 3:00 p.m.

It turns out that this is not the first tribute paid on this road to the British Royal Family since in 1997 another minute of silence was observed for the death of Diana of Wales.

The news caused a strong impact in the F1 paddockfull of Brits, especially in teams. Many reside in England like Mercedes and Red Bulleven though they are from Germany and Austria, but others like Williams, McLaren and Aston Martin, Sons of Britnicos to the hilt, the first with its two bosses ennobled by the queen in 1999 (Frank Williams) and 2005 (Patrick Head), the second with Elizabeth II herself inaugurating the Woking factory with Lewis Hamilton present then.

And hamilton also named Sir recently and who was affected like the rest of the pilots although on social networks he was still silent then Lando Norris he barely approved of the team’s heartfelt tribute. I know it was more effusive george russellhis teammate at Mercedes. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her dedication to our country and her gracious leadership have inspired so many generations of people in the UK and around the world.”I wrote. Albon, a British-born Thai, also spoke affectionately on social media.

Aston Martin was not far behind, and its CEO and future Alonso boss Lawrence Strollwrote: “We remember the light he shone around the world; the people he brought together; the many lives he touched; his sense of duty: unwavering dedication to both in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. His life was lived more beyond himself”.

During the afternoon, messages of condolences were received from the Presidency of the FIA, from Liberty with Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari and other teams who today will bear multiple visible signs of mourning.
