F1 – Hungarian GP 2022: Porsche buys 50% of Red Bull

AUdi, Porsche, the two powerful German firms have been flying over F1 news for weeks, looking for the best way to enter it, whether alone or associated with a team. And it seems that Porsche will do it in a big way, by buying half of the Red Bull team, great dominator with Mercedes and Ferrari in this championship.

It hasn’t been made official yet, but there are several leaked documents from Dutch motorsport in the works that support an announcement next week from this VW Group company that has already given the go-ahead to Porsche and Audi (linked more to Sauber) enter F1 in 2026 with the new engine cycle. Although the documents refer to Red Bull Technology, it is understood to be the entire F1 division.

This is also favored by the fact that the new CEO of the VW Group from September is precisely the current CEO of Porsche AG, Oliver Blume, great promoter of the return of the sports firm in F1.

Porsche competed as a constructor in 8 F1 seasons between 1957 and 1964 during which it won 1 victory, 1 pole and 5 podiums, to return later with more bad luck in 1991 associated with the Footwork team. Between the two, the golden age with McLaren. The cooperation between Porsche, McLaren and TAG has been one of the most successful in Formula 1 history.

With this engine, named TAG but manufactured by Posrche, McLaren drivers won a total of 25 Grands Prix between 1984 and 1987: Niki Lauda won the World Drivers’ Championship in 1984, narrowing by half a point over teammate Alain Prost; then, in 1985 and 1986, Prost won two of his four world titles. Not only that, alsohe McLaren-TAG-Porsche team won the Constructors’ World Championship title in 1984 and 1985.
