F1: Yuki Tsunoda will continue with AlphaTauri in 2023

FAENZA, Italy (AP) — AlphaTauri has extended Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda’s contract to stay with the team next year.

Tsunoda is in his second year in Formula 1 with AlphaTauri, and his best result this season was seventh at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in April.

The 22-year-old Japanese is 14th among the 20 drivers entered in the championship, with a total of 11 points. His career-best result was a fourth-place finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which ended last season in December.

“After moving to Italy last year, to be closer to the factory, I really feel part of the team and I’m happy to be able to continue racing with them in 2023,” Tsonoda said Thursday. .

“Our season isn’t over yet and we’re still fighting hard… so I’m fully focused on finishing it as best I can.”

Frenchman Pierre Gasly, partner of Tsunoda, rings to go to Alpine to replace Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard will move to Aston Martin next season following Sebastian Vettel’s retirement from F1.
