Gas prices and inflation they were in first place during the pair’s one and only debate. “Our oil reserves don’t exist to win midterm elections,” Rubio said. “They exist to help this country in an emergency or in the middle of a storm. What we can’t do is some of these crazy policies coming from the left that Congresswoman Demings has supported.”
Demings fired back at Rubio’s comments during the heated debate. “Of course, a senator who has never run anything but his mouth would know nothing about helping people and being there for people when they are in need.”

“The an extremist on abortion Congresswoman Demings is in this campaign. She doesn’t support any restrictions, no restrictions of any kind,” Rubio said. “She’s against the fourth month ban, she voted against the five month ban. Fox News Digital reached out to Demings on multiple occasions asking what, if any, abortion restrictions he supports, including up to the point of birth, but did not receive a response.
“Senator, how gullible do you really think the voters of Florida are,” Demings responded to Rubio’s pro-abortion claim. “You have made it clear that you do not support any exceptions, even including rape and incest.”
During the election cycle, Florida was devastated by Hurricane Ida, prompting both candidates to suspend their campaigns and, despite the political divide, focus on disaster recovery.
