Carl Phanor appeared in court on Friday accused of raping a woman in New York
Details have emerged of two other heinous sexual assaults Phanor allegedly also committed earlier this year
The victim Thursday morning was running along the Hudson River at Pier 45 around 5:45 a.m. when Phanor grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground, according to reports.
He climbed on top of her, put both hands around her neck and then squeezed “hard”, “choking her to the point where she was going in and out of consciousness”.
He allegedly took off her tennis shoes, pants and underwear and then raped her.
The woman passed out during the attack, and when she regained consciousness, her assailant fled with a cell phone, debit card, hotel key card and ID.
Detectives discovered that the woman’s card was used to attempt to purchase a bus ticket several hours later, at 8:55 a.m., at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
CCTV footage purportedly shows Phanor using the card at a Greyhound kiosk, wearing a green and yellow knit ski cap and a maroon hood with white lettering that says “UNH” across the chest.
Phanor was arrested later that day in the same clothes — carrying the woman’s stolen items, police said.

At the court hearing on Friday, it was said that the victim remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit with broken bones after the attack.
Phanor pleaded not guilty and Judge Jonathan Svetkey ordered that he be held without bail and undergo a mental health evaluation before his next court appearance on November 9.
Phanor is also charged with two other attacks.
On March 27 around 6 a.m., he allegedly assaulted another woman near Pier 46 in the area of West Street and Charles Lane in Manhattan.
He knocked the woman to the ground, ‘wrapped his arms around her neck and squeezed tightly’ as he pinned her down, police say.
Phanor then allegedly forced her to perform oral sex.

Outrage over the rape grew after it emerged that the suspect, Carl Phanor, had a long criminal history
DNA recovered from the victim matched Phanor’s.
On October 6 around 5 a.m., Phanor attacked another woman who was walking in the area of East 37th Street and FDR in Manhattan.
As with his other victims, he is said to have grabbed her from behind and placed her in a choke hold.
The woman broke free, but Phanor pursued her again and ‘while struggling her jeans were torn’.
She screamed and Phanor ran off with the woman’s cellphone and credit card, it is alleged.
Prosecutors said Phanor used several aliases and showed a “clear predatory pattern.”
He is charged with first degree rape, two counts of predatory sexual assault, two counts of strangulation, two counts of robbery and one count of first degree sexual act.
