It’s not Dani Alves – Millennium Group
What happens to the Pumas of the UNAM? What explains your drastic and spectacular decline so far in this tournament? Why did a team that promised great things collapse when it attracted the most attention, after the hiring of Brazilian Dani Alves?
The Pumas are, after 11 days, in 17th place of the 18 teams that make up the Liga Mx. They add only 9 points out of 33 possible. They only won one game, they have 6 draws and 4 losses. They scored 12 goals, but conceded 21. They are only above Querétaro, lower with 7 goals.
This lone Pumas win came on Day 3 (July 17), at the UC Olympics, beating Necaxa 1-0. They therefore have eight games without winning. They’ve been waiting for their Matchday 7 duel against Puebla as visitors. And they have already advanced their duel to the date of the 16th, at home against the Tigers, which ended in a draw at one.
The four losses were against America (0-3), against San Luis (3-2), against Santos Laguna (1-5) and against Chivas, last Saturday, (3-1).
They have the following rivals, in a row: the pending duel cited against Puebla, against Atlas, in Jalisco; against Querétaro, in CU; against Toluca, in La Bombonera; against Cruz Azul, for the locals and the one that closes the regular phase of the championship, for the visitors against FC Juárez.
University students will hardly be able to aspire even to the playoffs which are achieved if they were at least 12th in the table. Of these 6 games to play if they win two it would almost be a feat.
What is visible, what explains the defeats and the bad step may be obvious, but it is part of a necessary recount: poor management of the result in favor in several games; occasional defensive marking errors when their rivals have collections from set pieces; lack of dynamism and physical condition which makes the opponents stronger in the second half.
The ills of this team do not pass through the performance of Dani Alves. The evil is collective and the solution in the same dimension.
