“It’s very important for tennis that Federer comes back”

There is less and less to review Roger Federer on a tennis court, although it comes with not-so-positive emotions after the Swiss announced his retirement. Federer will not be in bad company in this make the cuphe will have by his side friends with whom he has shared great moments throughout his career such as Raphael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray. Eurosport tennis experts Àlex Corretja, Barbara Schett and Mats Wilander recall the highlights of the event which will take place next weekend.

“Having the Big 4 together is a dream come true”

Alex Corretja expressed his desire to see Roger Federer on the court again: “I really want to see him play, even if it’s only doubles. Hope you are feeling healthy. It is very important for tennis to see Roger again. Having the Big 4 together is like a dream come true. For the fans, it will be amazing. It’s a totally different contrast of styles.”

“I will probably play doubles with Rafa or Novak”

Barbara Schett wasn’t entirely convinced to see Federer play a singles match: “It’s very special to see the Big 4, it’s something you haven’t seen for a long time because of injuries and different circumstances. It could also be the last time, especially without being rivals on the track. I’m excited to see Roger Federer at the Laver Cup, I’m not sure if he will play singles. Most likely he will play doubles with Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic.”

“It’s a situation I never thought would happen”

For his part, Mats Wilander analyzes how the internal treatment will be in this European team: “Having the Big 4 in the Laver Cup is really incredible. We will see how they interact. It’s a situation I never thought I’d get into. Now it’s up to the rest of the world to make it a tight tournament because Europe have won the previous four editions”.

Next Friday, September 23, the tournament will kick off with a singles match at 1:30 p.m. Peninsula Time. Eurosport exclusively broadcasts a new edition of the Laver Cup in what will be the professional retirement of a legend like Roger Federer.
