Jerry Jones – Odell Beckham Jr. ‘could look pretty good’ with the Cowboys

FRISCO, Texas — If the free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has an interest in joining Dallas Cowboysthe club is doing its best to let him know that the interest is mutual.

Let’s talk further 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesdayowner and general manager Jerry Jones supported the Cowboys’ current receiving corps and the shape of the passing game, but added that Beckham “is somebody that we respect all over the world because of who he is as a competitor and we know that the Cowboys are a star on the helmet when he puts it on he can look pretty good.”

In eight games against the Cowboys with New York Giants and Cleveland BrownsBeckham has 40 catches for 558 yards and seven touchdowns.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday he’s “always been a big fan [Beckham]” and former and current assistants on his staff have vouched for him. Beckham is rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered in last season’s Super Bowl while playing for Los Angeles Rams.

“From Ben McAdoo, Joe Whitt, all the guys from the New York Giants and the Cleveland Browns, all the guys have nothing but great things to say about him,” McCarthy said. “I’ve always been impressed with his ability to play football. I’ve heard so many great things about him over the years.”

No visits have been arranged with Beckham so the team can see where he is recovering, but Jones is usually reluctant to talk about potential free agents for competitive reasons.

Beckham he told Complex in a video posted to Twitter on Sunday that when he signs with his next team, he wants it to be a multi-year situation. The Cowboys were one of four teams he mentioned.

“Whether it’s Buffalo, whether it’s Green Bay calling, the Cowboys, the reunion with the Giants, I want to be able to spill my last — I’m not saying I only have three or four [seasons] gone — but these next three or four years to something where I can buy a home, like I can call this place home. I’m tired of living out of two-week suitcases, I’ve had a rock and roll life,” he said.

The cowboys talked to Houston Texans leading up to last week’s trade deadline for the wide receiver Brandin Cooks, but nothing came to fruition. They also had short talks with Denver Broncos in relationship jerry jedyaccording to sources.

The Cowboys have the 25th-ranked offense and have yet to have a 100-yard receiver this season. Jones told The Fan that he believes the passing game will improve, especially as Dak Prescott is getting more comfortable coming back from a broken right thumb. Jones said CeeDee Lamb gives the Cowboys everything they want as a No. 1 receiver, Michael Gallupwho tore his ACL last January and missed the first three games of the season, is improving every day and adding free agent James Washington he is close to returning from his broken foot.

“I expect more efficiency. I expect not only to get the ball out of there quickly, but Dak to be able to throw the ball on the move, but I also see down the field in the passing game,” Jones said. “I like what we’re doing with our middle game with our tight ends … We’re just getting better at receiver. We may or may not as far as adding something at receiver, but if we don’t, I like where we’re at .”
