Kari Lake latest: Katie Hobbs widens lead in Arizona governor’s race as Republicans question results

Republicans make baseless claims of ‘fraud’ while refusing to accept Kari Lake’s midterm defeat

Katie Hobbs has extended her lead in a close Arizona governor’s race, and the Republican nominee has ruled out the 2020 election. Kari Lake is trying to cast doubt on the results if she loses.

As of Thursday morning, Ms. Hobbs, the Democratic secretary of state, was leading with 50.3 percent of the vote to Ms. Lake’s 49.7 percent.

However, with only 70 percent of the votes counted, it is too early to call the race and the result is expected to be close.

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Ms Lake said: “I feel 100% sure I’m going to win.

“Right now we’re down by just a few thousand votes, when those votes come in we’re going to see a lot of liberal minds blown.”

The race for the U.S. Senate seat is also still hanging in the balance, with incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly currently leading Republican Blake Masters — by a whopping 30 percent of the votes yet to be counted.

“While the press and pundits are predicting a ‘giant red wave,’ it hasn’t happened,” he told reporters.

“And I know you were a bit upset by my obsessive optimism, but I felt good about the whole process.”

Endorsements that helped and hindered during the midterms

Rather than being a golden ticket, however, Mr. Trump’s endorsement appears to be more like a coin toss; according to survey data from announced mid-term competitionsthe former president’s preferred candidates have only been successful in about half of the House and gubernatorial races, though they have fared well in Senate races so far.

‘People want the circus to stop’

Few were picking Lauren Boebert’s congressional race to go down to the wire.

“She is the incumbent; she represents the Republican plus nine district; she outperformed Adam Frisch, so she has more money to spend on her campaign,” said Justin Gollob, professor of political science. The Independent’s Sheila Flynn.

“Her name recognition is greater than Adam Frisch’s name. Probably one of his biggest commitments at this point is the recognition of his lower name.

“All these signs point to a fairly convincing victory. So what’s really surprising, at this point, is that we’re even having a conversation about the competitiveness of this race.”
