Leclerc, 21 thousandths from Pole at Zandvoort: “We are stronger than at Spa”

The Monegasque has touched the pole and will start second tomorrow, behind Verstappen

He is optimistic for tomorrow and thinks they have the rhythm to fight with Red Bull

Charles Leclerc hit the post at Zandvoort. The Monegasque is 21 thousandths behind Max Verstappen and will start tomorrow in second position, behind his biggest rival in the fight for the World Cup. Overall he is happy with Ferrari’s progress in qualifying and hopes to have a good race pace tomorrow.

Leclerc went to the garage in Q3 with the provisional Pole after his first attempt, but in the second Verstappen won the game by 21 thousandths. The Monegasque had to settle for second best of the Ferraris, but says progress at Zandvoort has been positive as they are much stronger than in Belgium.

“We were very close, Max had a very good lap in the last stage. We improved throughout qualifying, but at the start I was scared because Max was much faster than us on the worn tyres. we are stronger here than last weekend in Belgium”, commented Leclerc as soon as he got out of the car.

Leclerc is happy with Ferrari’s pace at the moment of truth and the second starting position isn’t bad at all. After one lap they were able to wage a war against Red Bull and for tomorrow they are confident in their race pace. Of course, the start will be very important, especially during the initial session, before the first stop. Strategy will also be key.

“In Q3 we found some speed and we were able to move up to second. Tomorrow is racing, we’ll see what happens. Our race pace is strong to be close to Red Bullso we have to be fine and then we’ll see,” Charles said in conclusion.

For the fourth time this season, Leclerc will start from second position tomorrow at Zandvoort. Of the previous three – Yeda, Imola and Austria – he took victory in the last, just as Verstappen started from Pole and in front of much of his fans in Red Bull territory, so there is no reason not to think big.
