Looking for more excitement: Formula 1 to implement key change at Zandvoort
The resumption of Formula 1 It already took place last weekend on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit of the Belgian Grand Prix, which had Max Verstappen as winner, accompanied by Checo Pérez and Carlos Sainz on the podium. After the holidays, the next meeting will not have to wait long, since the sixteenth date will begin this Friday at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands.
Circuit Zandvoort made its return to motorsport’s flagship competition last year, but lacked some of the action to fully convince spectators due to its design. For such reason, the Formula 1 consider modifications, if only to add more excitement to what’s happening on the track, and what better way to do that than with a small change in the DRS.
The layout has only two DRS zones, a short one between turns ten and eleven and another on the main straight, which is planned to change. Already last year the option of starting the DRS before the last corner to reach the straight with full momentum was presented, an idea that was rejected by the F1 For safety reasons. However, it is now planned to try again and it will be tested in free practice, Nikolas Tombazis told ‘Viaplay’.
“The current position is that we are going to have the DRS before the last corner, from the start, to improve the race at Zandvoort a bit.
The end of the season is approaching
the championship of Formula 1 is coming to an end now that there are only eight races left on the programme. The first of these will be in the Netherlands this weekend, followed by Italy in Monza from September 9-11. The importance of these dates is essential, given that Max Verstappen could be on the verge of being crowned if he achieves two more victories.
After two weeks of stopping, we will find the Singapore GP at the beginning of October, just before visiting Japan and the American tour which starts in the middle of the month. The United States, Mexico and Brazil will be the venues heading to Abu Dhabi, which closes the season on November 20 at the Yas Marina Circuit.
