‘Mattress Mack’ earns $75 million with Astros’ World Series win
Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack”, made good money when he Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 to win the World Series on Saturday night.
McIngvale won a record $75 million on bets he made on Astros to win the title. It is the largest payout for a single legal sports bet in US history. He invested a total of $10 million with numerous sportsbooks to cash out.
His best result includes a $3 million bet made in May with Caesars bookies at odds of 10 to 1. He has a total of $2 million in bets with BetMGM, $2 million with Barstool Sports and $1 million each with Wynn, Unibet and Betfred .
“I have no fear in me,” he said Tuesday in Atlantic City, New Jersey. “I have a high tolerance for risk. If I lose, there’s always another day.”
Fearlessness paid off.
“How is the tweet 75 million,” he wrote in a tweet with a picture of a briefcase full of money.
The Gallery Furniture owner also released a statement thanking his wife Linda, the Astros and the city of Houston. He addressed an incident in which he cursed Phillies fans while defends Jose Altuve.
“This past week has been particularly … indescribable,” he said. “An incident where I was the only one trying to defend my city and our team incited the city. Can’t say I’m thankful that you all always had my back. What to say?
“I love you all. I love this city. I would do anything for you. I am so proud to be a part of this city and I will ALWAYS stand up for you for what is right, and like (Hurricane) Harvey, Imelda and more will always give I do my best to act FAST and on the side of the people.”
