Milwaukee elections official Kimberly Zapata has been fired amid allegations of voter fraud

The deputy director of the Milwaukee Board of Elections was fired Thursday for allegedly fraudulently requesting military absentee ballots and sending them to the home of a state representative.

Former Deputy Director Kimberly Zapata, who worked with the commission for seven years, was “on board with her actions,” says Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson.

“This appears to be a blatant and obvious breach of trust,” Johnson said at a news conference, according to to Fox 6. “I was stunned, absolutely stunned, to hear the very serious allegations against her.”

The mayor added that “there was no attempt to vote illegally or to tamper with the election results.”

Wisconsin state law exempts military voters from having to register or show identification to get a ballot. Zapata is accused of using a public voting website to request fake ballots for fake voters and then sending them to state Rep. Janel Brandtjen (R).

Brandtjen has held several voter fraud hearings as chair of the Wisconsin Assembly Elections Committee. She has pushed for decertification former President Donald Trump’s defeat in the state’s 2020 presidential election.

“Unlike Mayor Johnson, I actually worked to make sure Wisconsinites had a safe and secure election process,” Brandtjen wrote in a statement. “We have discovered so many issues that require attention.”

Fire department added that it “revealed massive amounts of electoral disparities and a statewide election commission that undoubtedly broke the law on numerous occasions.”
