More player leaks to LIV and more Ryder Cup invites
The convulsive times continue in world golf. As the LIV, the circuit promoted by the capital of Saudi Arabia, continues to receive new players who give muscle to a Tour which arrives this week in Boston, the European Tour has announced a new electoral policy for the next year’s Rome edition of the Ryder Cup.
Luke Donald, the captain of the European team, will now have six elections to make the ’12’ who will be responsible for reclaiming the Cup from Roman Marco Simone next year, twice as many as Padraig Harrington had last year. Only three players from the World Ranking and as many from the DP World Tour will make the squad in a ranking that kicks off next week at the BMW PGA in Wentworth.
On the other hand, according to different information, Besides Cameron Smith, the last British winner Joaquin Niemann, Marc Leishman, Anirban Lahiri, Harold Varner and Cameron Tringale will also travel to LIV. Thirteen of the top 40 players in the world rankings at the start of the year are already part of the new circuit.
In this sense, the tension begins to be felt between the players themselves who will coincide next week – the rebels’ DP World Tour veto by a judge is tentatively suspended – at Wentworth. “It’s going to be hard to digest. I hate what LIV is doing in golf. It’s going to be hard for me to go out there and see 18 play there,” said Rory McIlroy, the new FedEx winner. Cup.
