The heavy hitters of American politics are hitting the campaign trail to deliver some final words about the importance of next Tuesday’s election.

But their messages may not get through.

It is about democracy writ large

President Joe Biden told donors in Florida this week that “democracy is on the ballot.”

Later, in a speech from Washington, DC, he warned against political violence through the state.

But in a nod to the reality of his political toxicity, Biden has mostly avoided events to win over voters in swing states.

It is about democracy in certain countries

In Arizona, former President Barack Obama, who is wildly popular and a real draw for Democrats, told a rally that if list of republican election deniers wins there next week, “Democracy as we know it may not survive in Arizona.”

He added: “That’s not an exaggeration. That’s a fact.”

Candidates for Secretary of State in Arizona and Nevadain particular, they promised to change the electoral system there to protect against widespread voter fraud, of which there is no evidence.

It’s 2024

Former President Donald Trump will begin his final round of rallies starting in Iowa, which is not the seat of the hotly contested Senate race but is home to the first choice for the president in the upcoming 2024 primary.

At an earlier rally in Texas, Trump presented the election as an opportunity for the “MAGA movement” to take back the country from Democrats.
