Ohio State availability report: Miyan Williams ready to go
There’s good news and bad news about Ohio State’s availability report for the Buckeyes’ game at Northwestern on Saturday (noon ET; ABC). The good news is the third year back Williams soup was not listed in the report, indicating he will play against the Wildcats. Williams suffered a left hand injury at Penn State last week when he was tackled near the sideline and caught in the marker chains. Williams did not return against the Nittany Lions and there were concerns it could be a long-term ailment. Head coach Ryan Day he eased those concerns Tuesday when he said Williams’ injury was “not serious.”
Williams was seen walking off OSU’s practice field Wednesday with a full load of toys and his left hand in a wrap. He may have to continue wearing the wrap for a while, but it’s obviously good news that he’s available for Ohio State today.
The bad news is that second year TreVeyon Henderson is listed as unavailable. Henderson has been dealing with nagging injuries for most of the season, but it’s unclear why he won’t be able to play. Ohio State does not say why the player is listed on the availability report; they simply say whether a player is unavailable or a game decision.
Even worse news is that fifth-year senior quarterback Cameron Brown is still out due to injury. Brown is a talented player who has struggled to stay healthy throughout his OSU career.
In the “we already knew that” category, junior wide Jaxon Smith-Njigba not available for Buckeyes vs. Northwestern. Smith-Njigba’s father told the Columbus Dispatch earlier this week that the earliest his son will return is Nov. 26 for a game against visiting Michigan.

What this means for Ohio State
It’s strange that we’ve been wondering about Williams’ status all week, and it’s Henderson who won’t be available today. At least the Buckeyes have Williams available for this game, but hopefully he has this game under control by halftime and we don’t see #3 in the second half. I’m looking for a healthy dose Dallan Hayden and Chip Trayanum in the second half, and honestly for parts of the first half. The Buckeyes are also without both of their top RBs – Caffey and Saunders – which means even more opportunities for Hayden and Trayanum, even if the game is out of reach.
Hopefully, what Henderson is dealing with is relatively minor, but it’s certainly a concern that he can’t stay healthy. Then again, that’s life at quarterback.
