Oregon had a $1 million Powerball winner, but the top prize will grow to a $1.5 billion jackpot
No one had all the winning numbers for the $1.2 million jackpot, so the Powerball jackpot grows to an estimated $1.5 billion for the next drawing, which is Saturday.
The numbers drawn on Wednesday night were: 2, 11, 22, 35, 60 and the red powerball 23.
A $1 million Powerball ticket was sold in Portland on Wednesday. Players also bought two $50,000 winning tickets, also sold Wednesday, in Portland and Troutdale.
Saturday’s jackpot is the second largest in Powerball history. The largest Powerball prize ever won in Oregon was $340 million in 2005.
The Oregon Lottery sold more than 6.77 million tickets as of Monday. Powerball sales ended in Oregon at 7pm on Saturday before the 7:59pm drawing.
No one has won the Powerball jackpot since August 3rd. What is hidden behind three months of lottery futility? It’s simple math. The odds of winning the jackpot are a whopping 1 in 292.2 million.
It’s because of those long odds the top prize has increased so big.
The new $1.5 billion prize is actually for winners who opt for an annuity, paid annually over 29 years. Almost everything winners choose cashwhich for Saturday’s drawing would be $745.9 million.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as in Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
