Overwatch 2’s new tank hero Ramattra was revealed at the OWL Grand Final

The next hero comes to his senses Overwatch 2 it’s not really new. The players got a look at himOmnic activist known as Ramattra, more than three years ago, at the end of an Overwatch Archive event named Storm Rising. That event’s interesting reveal of the menacing Omnik teaming up with the villainous Doomfist finally paid off on Friday at the Overwatch League Grand Finals, when Blizzard Entertainment revealed that a new tank-class character is coming. Overwatch 2 next month.

Ramattra will join Overwatch 2 roster on December 6, debuting with the game’s second season. He will be the 11th tank character in the game, and will bring a unique mechanic to the tank group: Ramattra has two forms, the standard Omnic form and a huge second form, called Nemesis.

In his standard Omnic form, Ramattra fights using a staff that fires projectiles and can create a barrier to protect his team. But when Ramattra is unleashed, using an ability on cooldown, he becomes a gigantic brawler capable of powerful melee attacks that will strike fear into the squishies of the opposing team. Overwatch’s developers have described Ramattra’s transformation as “terrifying” and “menacing,” transforming him from a fairly standard-sized hero to one of the biggest in the game. That change to his more aggressive Nemesis form makes him more lethal, but it also makes him a much bigger target for attacks like Ana’s Sleep Arrow or Zenyatta’s Orb of Discord.

But Ramattra will offer tank players new gameplay options, allowing them to choose between protecting their team with longer range attacks and barriers or aggressively leading the charge into battle. His punches, while in Nemesis form, can break through barriers, lead hero designer Alec Dawson said, providing counter “bubbles” to heroes like Winston and Zarya.

Blizzard didn’t reveal too much about Ramattra’s ability set or his stats during Thursday’s press briefing, instead focusing on Omnic’s narrative place in Overwatch’s world.

According to Blizzard’s official origin story, Ramattra was built as a war machine for the Omnic Crisis, but laid down his weapons, seeking peace with Zenyatta. For a time, Ramattra followed that peaceful path before eventually leading the Null Sector, and fought for the survival of his people by any means necessary.

“Omnica and humans tried to coexist, but as you’ve seen in the lore, it didn’t go well,” said lead narrative designer Gavin Jurgens-Fyhrie. “Ramattra is tired of waiting and has become impatient. He founded this organization with some allies to fight for the freedom of Omnik and to win their safety at any cost.”

I like It’s theresounds like ramattra will be introduced to players over Overwatch 2‘s battle pass. Players who pay for the premium version of that pass will get it immediately, while other players will need to level up the free version of the pass to unlock it. Asked if Blizzard plans to change the required battle pass level — which was 55 for Kiriko — for Ramattra’s edition, art director Dion Rogers demurred, saying the Overwatch team regularly evaluates its plans. “It’s an ongoing conversation for our team,” Rogers said.

Ramattra will arrive in Season 2 along with a new map, which the developers said has unspecified connections to the new hero. More heroes are planned, including a new support class character Overwatch 2 in 2023
