Professor condemned after calling for ‘amnesty’ to forgive supporters of isolation due to coronavirus: ‘Hell no’

Conservatives took to social media to condemn the author of an article in The Atlantic this week that called for a “pandemic amnesty” in which opponents of the coronavirus lockdown would forgive those who advocated masking, shutdowns and vaccines during the pandemic.

“Kids are missing out on their education,” Sen. Melissa Melendez, R-Calif posted on Twitter. “Mom and Dad are out of business. Military members are being kicked out. The list goes on and on. Those responsible deserve every scorn in their path.”

The Atlantic article titled “Let’s Declare Pandemic Amnesty” i published on Mondaywrote Brown University economics professor Emily Oster and tried to prove that supporters of the isolation measures “did not know” that cloth masks were ineffective, that there was no outdoor transmission of the virus and that they were motivated by “deep uncertainty.” “

Conservatives on social media condemned the article and largely “judged” the post, giving it far more negative responses than retweets and likes.

“Greatest thing I’ve read in a while,” Fox News contributor Katie Pavlich tweeted. “You have destroyed lives, fired people, set back children for generations, promoted an anti-American smear/welfare passport system for the ‘unvaccinated’, censored, etc. We had the data in May 2020. These people ignored it. No “

“Funny how the calls for amnesty come right before the Republicans take control,” wrote Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe.

“Oh no, @ProfEmilyOster,” Fox News senior meteorologist Janice Dean, who lost both in-laws to the coronavirus while hospitalized in New York, they tweeted. “Many of us will never forgive or forget. Especially when it comes to the elderly who died in nursing homes after leaders flooded their homes with covid patients and never told us or protected them. They knew better. We first we deserve justice.”

“Hell no,” declared the popular conservative Twitter account LibsofTikTok. “I will never forget what the Democrats did – how they destroyed thousands of lives by closing schools/businesses, people dying alone in hospitals while nurses danced because they wouldn’t allow visitors, thousands lost their jobs due to wax refusals, the list goes on and on.”

“Forgiveness usually comes after an apology,” conservative commentator Lauren Chen posted. “I don’t see an apology in this text. Remember how you encouraged family members to put pressure on each other and unvaccinated people to get fired? Maybe a little ‘sorry about that’ would be a good place to start.”

“In April 2020, no one became infected with the corona virus if someone else went hiking. Outdoor transmission was completely rare,” Oster wrote in the article. “Our cloth masks made from old bandanas wouldn’t do anything anyway. But the thing is: We didn’t know.”

The article added: “The standard saying is that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. But dwelling on historical mistakes can also lead to a repeating loop of doom. Let’s admit that we’ve made complicated choices in the face of profound uncertainty, then try to work together to bounce back and move forward.”

In an emailed statement to Fox News Digital, Oster said the coronavirus pandemic “they have created many problems that we still need to solve and repeating what we have done wrong or wrong for an uncertain time will not move us forward.”

“Student test scores have shown a historic decline,” Oster continued. “Routine vaccination rates for children (measles, whooping cough, etc.) are significantly lower. We need to collect data, experiment and invest. We need to move forward, because we are losing sight of getting this generation of children back on track.”
