Ted Cruz hit with beer during Astros World Series parade in Houston; man arrested
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was hit by a beer can on Monday World Series Victory Parade for the Houston Astrosand an arrest was made, the police announced.
Cruz was on a float in the 2400 block of Smith Street in Houston when the can was thrown, Houston Police tweeted.
“Beer can hit the senator in the chest/neck area,” the police said, adding that he was not injured.
In a video of the incident posted on social media, boos can be heard coming from the crowd at the parade as Cruz drives by, standing in the back of a military-style vehicle. The can is hurtling toward his head, and the people in the vehicle are trying to shield him from the projectile.
Police said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault. The man’s name will be released later, it said.
Spokesmen for Cruz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Saturday in Game 6 of the World Series to win the championship for the second time in team history.
