Tropical Depression Nicole: North Georgia school districts cancel classes Friday – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — What’s left of Tropical Storm Nicole is making its way through north Georgia on Friday.

Severe Weather Team 2 following Nicole all week and how it might affect us in the area. The storm was downgraded to a tropical depression late Thursday.

Habersham, Banks, Rabun and White county schools were closed Friday due to the weather.

A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Friday. Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan says gusts up to 40 mph are possible. This could lead to downed trees and power outages.

Monahan says 1-3 inches of rain is possible in some areas. Precipitation could be good for some areas given how dry Atlanta has been since early September.

Rain could throw a wrench into some Friday plans in metro Atlanta. Marietta has canceled its annual Veterans Day Parade.

“Our first priority is the safety of our veterans, parade participants and the community; therefore, the parade and ceremony cannot continue under these conditions. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the parade, there is no rescheduling of the date.
