While playing to a crowd of supporters in Robstown, Texas, former Pres Donald Trump drew fans as he talked about his first two races for The White House — and teased the third.

“In order to make our country successful, safe and glorious again, I will probably have to do it again,” he said last month.

That carefully placed “probably” may soon disappear from Trump’s speech. Aides to the former president are quietly gearing up for a 2024 presidential campaign that could launch shortly after next week’s midterm elections, as Trump tries to capitalize on the expected republican wins to move toward becoming his party’s front-runner for the nomination.

Trump’s lawyers fighting the election results saw Thomas as key

Lawyers who helped the former president Donald TrumpEfforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election involved an appeal to the judiciary of the Supreme Court Clarence Thomas as the “key” to their success, according to emails provided to congressional investigators and released Wednesday.

Emails from December 2020 show lawyers discussing ways to delay certification of results in Georgia, a hotly contested state won by Democrat Joe Biden. One attorney, Kenneth Chesebro, suggested that an appeal to Thomas, as the justice handling the emergency appeals from Georgia, “could end up being key here.”

“We want to frame things so that Thomas can be the one to issue some kind of stay or second opinion from the district court saying that Georgia is in legitimate doubt,” Chesebro wrote. “Realistically, our only chance to get a favorable court opinion by Jan. 6, which could keep Georgia’s numbers in Congress, is from Thomas.”
