Twitter employees blindsided by Elon Musk’s bad reviews
- Twitter employees post bad reviews about the company and Elon Musk on the anonymous Blind forum.
- One person called Musk a “brutal decision maker.” Another said he had “no idea” what he was doing.
- Posting on the day the layoffs were announced, one user said management was causing “stress.”
Twitter employees flood the Blind employee forum with some bad — and some good — reviews about the company and its new CEO, Elon Musk.
Insider went through the community app, where employees can anonymously write reviews and post about their jobs, to see what Twitter staff are saying about the company.
Twitter laid off thousands of employees on Friday as Elon Musk completed a $44 billion takeover of the platform. After firing nearly half of Twitter’s workforce, Musk tweeted on Friday that “there was no choice” because the company was losing more than $4 million a day.
Blind requires users to provide their business email address, the company they work for and their job title when they sign up. The site does not verify employment, but asks that people use their work email to “assess the professional status” of users, Blind’s Web page of the state.
Users posted a total of 953 Twitter reviews on the site since 2020 and the company has an overall rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars. Each poster adds a star rating to their review. Some of the reviews have been published the day some staff members learned mass layoffs the next morning, but most are from earlier.
One poster who described himself as an engineering manager said on Wednesday: “Brutal decision makers at the helm. Emergency driven work is exciting for thrill seekers. Wages no longer tied to stock market fluctuations.”
The anonymous poster, who gave Twitter a two-star rating, added: “The absolute and rapid destruction of a compassionate, people-first corporate culture leaves Tweeps feeling like we’ve lost our family.”
Another user, who on the day the company sent a memo to staff announcing the layoffs, said it was “good until Elon takes over.”
The self-proclaimed senior software developer listed getting “work for Elon” as a “pro” of working at the company, then added being treated like a “work robot” to the accompanying list of “cons.”
“A sense of accomplishment in delivering mission-critical projects while working 24 hours a day and sleeping in the office,” the post said.
A Twitter employee tweeted a picture of a the manager is sleeping in the office this week after Musk took over. Musk announced plans to launch new product features, including a $8 verification subscription.
The software engineer said on Nov. 2 that before the company went private, it was an “amazing” place to work.
They added: “Elon’s mother is flipping Musk and his Martian ego. Twitter is already a mess, but when the layoffs come on Friday, it’s going to be a huge dumpster fire. The man has no idea what he’s doing and I bet Twitter will get $8.” it won’t be around or relevant in a few years.”
It is not possible to say which of these posters, if any, was fired.
Another blind user wrote on Thursday that management changes are creating “stress” as a result of people being fired or quitting.
Twitter did not respond to Insider’s request for comment.
