Twitter impersonators will be permanently suspended, says Musk

Nov 6 (Reuters) – Elon Musk said on Sunday that Twitter users who engage in impersonation without clearly identifying it as a “parody” account will be permanently suspended without warning.

In a separate tweet, Musk said Twitter previously issued a warning before the suspension, but as Twitter rolls out broad verification, there will be no warning and “no exceptions.”

“This will be clearly identified as a requirement to sign in to Twitter Blue,” Musk said, adding that any name change will cause a temporary loss of the verified checkmark.

Twitter on Saturday has updated its app in Apple’s App Store to start charging $8 for requested blue ticks, in the first major overhaul of Elon Musk’s social media platform.

Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) Chief Musk, who will also be Twitter’s chief executive, said last month that Twitter would form a content moderation council with “very diverse viewpoints”.

“No major decisions on content or the return of the bill will happen before that council meets,” he added.

On topic banned accountsMusk said last week that they would not be allowed back on Twitter until the social media platform had “a clear process for doing so.”

Creating such a process would take at least several more weeks, Musk tweeted, providing more clarity on the potential return of Twitter’s most famously banned user, former US President Donald Trump. The new timeline implies that Trump will not return in time for the Nov. 8 midterm elections.

Earlier on Sunday, the New York Times registered Twitter is delaying the introduction of check boxes to subscribers of its new service until after Tuesday’s midterm elections.
