US Open 2022: Carlos Alcaraz speaks against Bez, who gives up in the third set due to physical problems
Hhave just one, Carlos Alcaraz participated in his first US Open as number 55 in the ATP rankings. He went on to reach the quarters, becoming the youngest of the top eight in the Open Era, and set the stage for an unstoppable rise to the pinnacle of racquet sport.
Alcaraz made his debut today at the Arthur Ashe track, the biggest on the circuit, as the third favorite in the individual draw and with math options to become early number one of history on Monday, September 12 if crowned on the slopes of Flushing Meadows.
The “Big Apple” is synonymous with entertainment and Charlie completely identifies with it. At the moment, he is already six wins from the goal after beating Sebastian Bez on Tuesday 7-5, 7-5, 2-0 and the Argentine’s withdrawal. 2 hours and 30 minutes of hard fighting had passed.
“Nobody likes to win like that, with your injured rival. I feel sorry for him because he’s a great player,” said the Murcian at the conclusion.
Bez had already tested the art of his rival during the Next Gen Finals’ in Milan which ended in the palm of the pupil of Juan Carlos Ferrero. And it is that he has improved his ranking 10 times in a single season.
Carlitos signs a perfect 8-0 for his debut in the ‘Grand Slam’ tournaments. After suffering in the opening round, he made the decisive “break” in the twelfth game.
The men’s tour sensation took a 2-0 lead in the second set. At the fifth ball of ‘break’, Bez returned to the scene, as his opponent was starting to weigh in on the 31 degrees and 58% humidity in the Queen’s neighborhood. Unforced errors have multiplied.
Up to four games chained the Argentinian, who served to hold on with 5-3. Then came a saving break from Alcaraz. He ate a banana and drank an isotonic drink from his bench for the occasion.
“You have to get it out of the jar (head), you have to suffer“, Ferrero said from his privileged position in the front row of center court.
Carlitos was spared sudden death as he printed one more gear on turn 12. The scenario is repeated.
The world number four went to the locker room to change while Bez sought the help of the physiotherapist to treat his left leg discomfort. With 2-0 he was stuck and released the white flag.
In the second round, the winner of the match between Tallon Griekspoor and Federico Coria awaits him. If won, he will equal the 46 games won by Stefanos Tsitsipas, which are the best of the current season.
Tsitsipas couldn’t add to that stat as he was surprised by Colombian Daniel Elahi Galn’s first.
