Virginia town, schools under protection as ‘armed and dangerous’ man on the loose: police
Residents a A city in Virginia were ordered to shelter in place Thursday as police search for an armed and dangerous man who tried to run over two officers in a stolen squad car, authorities said.
Officers converged on Pulaski’s south side in search of Jerrod Celablee Brown, who stole an additional firearm from a police vehicle after crashing and fleeing on foot, Police Department Pulaski he said.
Several gunshots were heard in the area, but it was not immediately clear who fired the shots, police said, adding that at this time no one from the police had fired a firearm.
Police said there were no injuries as the search continues.
All residents of Southside and several schools in the area have been ordered to evacuate until the situation is resolved, officials said. Citizens were asked to avoid the area from Valley Street to the Draper Mountain lookout, and officials said no traffic was allowed to cross the mountain.
Schools under protection at the site included Pulaski Elementary School, Critzer Elementary School, Dublin Elementary School, Pulaski County Middle School and Pulaski County High School, along with the school board office.
“This is just a precautionary measure and there are no real problems inside the Pulaski County Public School buildings,” Pulaski County Public Schools said in a Facebook post.
The police informed the residents not to go near Brown if they spot him and call 911 instead.
